On 7th December Daniel Kawczynski MP met with Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Culture, Piotr Gliński. Amongst the issues discussed, politicians spoke about Poland’s looted art during the Second World War and the era of communism. A number of artworks appear at London’s auction houses, such as Sotheby’s, and are illegally sold. Kawczynski has repeatedly enquired at the Sotheby’s auction house about the Polish paintings. One of the artworks, Siemiradzki’s “Dacing with the Swords” was withdrawn from an auction last month.
Daniel Kawczynski looks forward to further cooperation between the UK’s and Poland’s Ministries and Departments of Culture in order to prevent stolen and looted art being smuggled and sold. Deputy Prime Minister Gliński thanked Daniel Kawczynski for his efforts and hoped for more joint British-Polish cultural initiatives and events in the future.
